Love the site Becker….I have a question for ya though! Let’s say you make a semi-authority site (or whatever someone wants to label it), anyway a site that is a review site for like 100 products. What is the best structure for such a site?

Would it be like Home Page >>> Brands >>> Specific Products? Or something different?

Thanks again, keep up the awesome work my man!

  6. Becker
    November 29, 2013

Yep…More importantly remember how the link juice is flowing through your site and focus on sending it to pages you really need help with. Don’t so much focus on “siloing”. Focus on controlling link juice

Your timing is impeccable! – just going through various silo structures right now!

Becker! Great info again my friend. I must say, I have tried the silo technique on a few niche sites and wow does it ever work. It’s exactly like the saying a rising tide lifts all ships. This technique is awesome for getting all the pages indexed and ranked super fast.

    Hey. Nice video like always.

What do you think about setting pages in a category named like top of several funnels of silo? In Omega were doing this and I do this for mz sites, but it looks like a little bit over optimiyation. Anyway write what’s your experience about it, please.

    Thx

  20. November 29, 2013

One of the best compressed definitions of silos i ever watched! clear, simple and straight to the point.

Thank you very much Alex for such a great overview of the different types of Silos. Closed looping Silos have been working for me with amazing results throughout the years. I believe for building authority websites, most pages of your site must recieve quality backlinks independent of the your silos type. I read this week as well that Penguin 2.1 targetted websites that has an unbalanced ratio of backlinks between its inner pages. To a certain degree i kinda agree with this theorem.

Based on that, we started implementing more balanced strategies at our SEO agency as well in terms of linking to most inner pages not just the ones we need to rank even if we had the silos set up properly and everything.

I will be tuned for your future updates!

By far your channel is one of the best and most entertaining SEO hub among all!

    Hi Becker.

Great video. Regarding the two PR links for the rhinoplasty site, to which page(s) did you send them.

Also would you eventually send links to all the pages in the silo, or are PR links to one page usually enough to rank the whole silo given a Dream Niches level of competition?

  24. Becker
    November 29, 2013

    Home page and plano page

  25. November 29, 2013

    Alex B.
Thanks! Your style works with me. Resonates. ($.25 word) Maybe you could share a specific silo example with three specific different levels of
keywords, competitive, medium, easy, and where you would put the links from your PR4, PR3, PR2, and PR1 network sites. (Maybe with a thinner
    line on the marker.)
And while you are at it can you come to my house and do my silo too.

Really……Thanks man. You are pretty good! :>)

    November 29, 2013

I understand everything you have explained, but what about your navigation links at the top of the page? Don’t they route link juice also? Wouldn’t that mess up your linking structure? Maybe I am overthinking this.

  30. Becker
    November 29, 2013

    You are overthinking this

  31. Brian
    November 29, 2013

    Becker,

Thanks for the info on silos. Just found your site a couple days ago and I have spent a lot of time reading and watching your vids. All extremely useful and helpful. Job well done!

    Question:

Does the navigation menu also pass link juice?

So, does the Nose Job Cost Dallas page pass juice to:

    - Rhinoplasty Surgery Ft Worth Dallas

    AND

    - Home,
    - Dallas Rhinoplasty Surgery Cost
    - Rhinoplasty Surgery Plano

    Best,
    Brian

  32. Becker
    November 29, 2013

    Question:

Does the navigation menu also pass link juice?

Sorta, but dont focus on this. When your in the first few spots then worry about tiny shit like this

    November 29, 2013

    Becker

Do you have links going to your Rhioplasty example site or is that ranking on structure alone?

  35. November 29, 2013

Thanks Becker, had the same question cant wait to try this out ;)

  36. November 29, 2013

    Hey Becker,

regarding silos… Is it ok to implement them even if the site isnt all based around the same exact niche/keyword? Lets say I have a site and it covers stuff like, seduction, looks, motivational speaking etc. I have lets say 10 pages in each category. Should I make 10 “step” silos or is there a max number of “steps”? I would also like your view on sidebars and “related posts” “related tags” etc. It should all be eliminated?

Thanks for the video and for the answer.

    Sincerely, Igor B.

  37. November 29, 2013

Which type of Silo does your Autopilot v2 use?

  38. Steven
    November 29, 2013

    hey Becker,

    Happy T/Day
Again solid info packed with actionable content.
Many times I felt like the dude for the worrier forum clip until you posted the free beginners SEO course.
Now I have structure and direction instead of bits and pieces of second hand information.

I have been revamping my seozen silo sites using these beginner tips and now I’m not guessing what to do next but do this than do that and its developing into a system.

My plan is to build long term silo sites. That said I’m not going to use junk link packs but I did purchase my first PR3 expired domain.
    I have 2 Questions:

Firstly, which is a safe and reliable way to get index in google search?

Secondly, when you send link juice to a page from your posted links elsewhere does it bleed off some of the link juice power before continuing on to the next page in your silo?

    Thanks again Becker you rock…

    Hey Becker!

Great video- by golly I think I got the basics of what a SILO structured site is! Thanks so much man. And shit… I totally love your 12yr old humor :)

Quick question, when doing a SKILO am I sending the PR backlinks to the pages at the top of every SILO I create (the most competitive kws) as opposed to the home page? or no- is it the home page I’m sending/linking them to?

    becker

you’re my guru. thanks for sharing your seo insights.
i’m restarting all my seo sites now.

btw when will you cover the youtbe ranking strategy?thanks man.

  56. November 30, 2013

    Hi Alex

When you retire you could get a job as an entertiner. i would pay to see you live. Emough of sucking up for now.

1 I acquire a medical PR4 site in say Austin Texas.

2 I load it up with say appropiate medical content.

3 I monitorise it with say clickbank or anyone and promote the site.

Is that all I need before I try to sell links?

How many links is reasonable before one is considered greedy.

    Thank you

    john

  57. Hansie
    November 30, 2013

Just a quick question: Can I rebuild a site into a silo structure and just keep the main ranking pages and redo the structure? The site is starting to rank but I believe that with a silo it will rocket after pushing some high PR links to it.

Thanks for awesome value as always!!

  58. Mike
    November 30, 2013

    Hey Becker

Awesome video as usual. Thanks for all the awesome content as usual. and your free courses are the sh$t.

I can’t wait to start making a little more cash to invest in your paid products and services I’ve heard some great reviews.

This might be a little of topic but you said you can charge surgeons for renting out the site thats ranked for “rhinoplasty surgeons texas”, my question is how can you charge them if the keyword doesn’t get any monthly searches?

Thanks again and keep up the great work

    November 30, 2013

Hey Becker, first thank for great information that you provided! I want to ask, does recent post widget (wordpress) or related post break silo structure? Do i need remove them?

  60. November 30, 2013

Hi Becker, great video as usual!

There is no point over-complicating this…as you say “its like shit flowing through your site like plumbing”. Brilliant.

You should create a book on Becker-isms, “Going to Matt Cutt’s blog and expecting him to show you how to rank is like going to a girl’s dad and asking him how to get in her pants” must surely be in there!

    Thanks again.

  61. Lee
    November 30, 2013

Hey Becker, does this only work with pages, or does it work with posts too ? I was thinking you you could backlink the category pages then the link juice would go too many posts before the main page. Will this work ?

    Thanks
    Lee

    November 30, 2013

Refreshing approach to the Bruce Clay/Russell Wright/Sue Bell/et.al. schools of thought out there. You rock, Becker!

  63. November 30, 2013

Hoping this is a simple question… can I put a no follow link on these silo pages and link not have link juice follow those links… example links to the membership sign in page

  64. Simon
    November 30, 2013

    Great stuff!

I am really interested to join Infinitum and I know is a bit off topic, but I am from Europe and would like to apply SEO here.
How tha heck do you backlink here??? (Italy or Germany for example)

You can’t buy Italian expired domains, buy italian links, publish articles on ezines, they are in English…. and the anchor text in Italian on a Egnlish language article is pretty weird.

Is there any way to do it?

hehe thanks anyway, I really enyoi to follow source-wave it’s a funny experience.

    Simon

  65. November 30, 2013

Dude – Love your presentations – you CRRRRAAACCCKKK me up.

Interesting take on Silo’ing – Follow the juice through the plumbing to where you want the traffic to go.

    Love it.

    November 30, 2013

    Hey Becker
Great stuff as usual! Always fun watching you pontificate!

I have a good one for you. well, it’s really not that good.
But the almighty Google has just de-indexed 3 of my websites.
They informed me on 11/26/13 (via Webmaster tools), which I thought it was very considerate of them since Black Friday and the holiday shopping season was just 3 days away.
Considering this scenario, is there anything that can be done to revive these sites, at least for the short term? Essentially the holiday season?
Are there any quick ways to work around this issue?
I had heard you mention there might be some people you know that would (in this case) just move the entire site to a new domain and start the process again.
And if that is a workable plan. would there be any issue with submitting site maps for the new domains.
Since the old sites have been de-indexed would there be an issue with duplicate content.
I had numerous pages ranking from all 3 of these sites.
What’s your take? I appreciate any info or insights!

    Thanks
    George

P.S. I see you’ve been doing some practicing on the guitar. You have gotten much better since I first ran across you.
    Keep up the good work.
BTW, I’ve been teaching guitar for over 30 years, so I do know a thing or two, about a thing or two.
Now if I could just win a round or 2 with the giant Google douche! Duck and weave baby! Duck and weave! lol

    Rock on Garth!

    November 30, 2013

Hey Becker, first, you should know that in my household, you’re referred to as “the guy who just doesn’t give a shit”. As in “what are you listening to, that guy who doesn’t give a shit again?”. Must have been something you said. Anyway, thanks, keep it up. But – one simple question.

Does silo’ing need to be done with fresh content, or is it effective to go through old content and rejig into a silo formation?

I have sites with plenty of content, and I can see how the pages would fall into silos – do you have any results with existing, older, content?

  71. Aat
    November 30, 2013

    Becker, great vid very informational.

One word of advice though, be careful with making snide remarks about the Netherlands, the Dutch are well know for plugging holes, Hansje Brinkers style so to speak.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

  72. George
    November 30, 2013

    Hey Becker,
    Duth I offend?
No answer to my question? Actually, now there isn’t even a question to answer. It be gone!
I hope I didn’t accidentally reveal one of the secret codes.

As soon as I submitted this comment my previous question shows up. Oh well.
    Thanks

  74. November 30, 2013

Could one of the various ‘silo’ concepts work effectively with an affiliate site showcasing products sold by a major online retailer like Amazon?

For instance, my just launched website is designed to showcase Amazon electronics. The site went live (as of today) focusing on the latest in TV technology, Many subcategories are in process.

Everything electronic from radar detectors and jammers to SLR cameras to computers is in the works.

If Amazon sold high performance cars they would be at the top of the list…but given their strategy to take over the world those will likely show up soon!

Good video, but how do you account for the linking in the site navigation that screws up your perfectly formed silos?

  76. cj
    December 1, 2013

I got SEO Zen, but not the rewriter. If I make these silos with duplicate content, will that hurt my rankings?

  77. December 1, 2013

is the seo zen plugin similar to russell and sue one at network empire? Can you use them together or will they cause conflicts…

    December 1, 2013

Hey Becker, great vid! Just wanted to give you another shout to let you know i am ranking #2 for a 12K search with 0 backlinks. That’s right 0 backlinks, just using the tactics you have shown over the past few months. Thanks again as always!

  79. Charles
    December 1, 2013

Man I’m really enjoying your videos. They are so engrossing and informative. Silos will become a major part of my SEO strategy from now on. Really appreciate everything you are giving away for free. Thanks.

  80. Larry Spiler
    December 1, 2013

First, what do you mean by “clean links” you control? And, since, at least, I’m new to the SEO game, I don’t have high PR pages or sites. Do we just slog along working at this stuff daily until our pages/sites start getting higher PR or can we short-circuit the amount of time this takes by using________________?
    Thanks Becker.
P.S. I didn’t realize until today that you’re a practicing or Semi Colon Magician.

  81. December 1, 2013

Becker, thanks for sharing, especially for providing the Plano rhinoplasty site as a case study. Reviewing that site has been very helpful and this video makes it much clearer. Much appreciated, sir!

  82. December 1, 2013

Great video. I had a problem with it though. Had to put it on pause and then replay sections due to laughing so hard. Love your irreverence with Google. I got how link juice flows.

I did have one confusion. At about 4:30 in the video at the beginning you describe what you like to call a reverse silo and then later at about 12:13 you describe it differently, almost opposite. So even though I get what they do, and just for the sake of naming conventions in case I hear you talk about them later do we consider the Reverse Silo to be the way you describe it in the last part of the video. Thanks.

  83. December 2, 2013

Thanks for inventing silos. Ha! In all seriousness, great video. It is amazing how SEO has transitioned away from link buying.

Question, can SEO ZEN be used on an existing site or can it only be used on new websites?

  84. December 2, 2013

    Hi Becker,
    A bit confused…
Doesn’t WP have a great internal linking out of the box?
Most businesses and content sites need a nice top nav dropdown menu for ease of use and better user experience.
Latest posts, most popular, tags, category dropdowns etc.
Or is this bad for ranking? I had tag pages rank in the past, category pages, image attachment pages, with nothing but the WP as-is and a Yoast SEO plugin.

Are your silos meant for static pages or also meant for category posts [like for sites built with posts vs. pages]?

Sites like Wikipedia link randomly to any term. And they are top most authority site.
I understand logic of driving many internal links to strengthen a particular page, but aside from a link in posts for this, is there not enough from all the WP widgets for this internal linking – in general?

  85. Becker
    December 2, 2013

Your making this way to complicated Curly. Put your pages on your site and link that shit together. =P

  86. December 3, 2013

YOU DIDNT INVENT SILOS YOU LIAAAARRR… WAAHHHHHHHH

Let’s say you have an ecommerce site with 10 killer products, they aren’t really in categories. Its just like.. website.com/product-name What do you do there?

    Inb4 over-complicating it

  87. December 3, 2013

I’ve been online all evening and have learned more from watching and reading this and other resources you have available. I started my own small business and rank well. Ex Army attitude (not quite like the Air Force one lol) and enjoy outranking major companies. With your advice, I am certain to now blow these people off page one over the next coming weeks. My web content is all new and relevant and already have a PR 1 site of my own.

Keep up your good work. Nice to see you have done well yourself.
Has been a good boost for someone like myself to do better.

    Cheers

    Thx 4 the video, Becker!

1 question: Why not make the dragonite page the homepage instead? Usually, the homepage is supposed to rank for the most competitive term, so why put that term into a category/inner page instead of just on the homepage?

    Cheers!

    Hi Becker,

Enjoyed (as always) your informative & entertaining video! Thanks.

However, and I’m sorry for using this channel, I’m not getting along with Matt. Reports and communication have stopped as well! Could you please browse through support ticket #363167 “Lazy Ace” and give me your oppinion on this. I also dropped this at sourcewave.zendesk.com, #15860. I remember a video mentioning someone “dying”. That might be over doing it though, lol.

What’s up Becker. I actively view your videos and love the site. I have a local seo search term I’d like to rank for for lead generation purposes. This will be my first experience with SEO. The site ranked #1 for the site has only 37 backlinks. Is it probable that I can outrank them? Using a few good high pr relevant backlinks?

Took a while to read all the comments. But very helpfull

Hey Becker, are you spyder spanking the links to findrhinoplastysurgeons.com? What is up with that rank? All silo?

I followed some of your recent advice and suddenly a site I build for my gardener to help him out is #1 for Murrieta lawn service. Only 3 PR links with PR2/3 type stuff and a few more noPR links total of like 7 domains and kabam! all over page one for Murrieta lawn care or Murrieta gardening service and starting to rank for Temecula (cojoined twin city) so I went back today and created some more silo stuff for temecula. I probably didn’t do it perfectly but the website keeps moving up so that will be awesome for my gardener who is trying to grow his business.

PS. I didn’t even do a keyword domain- just whodoesmyyard.com. Well, I guess yard is kind of a keyword but not an EMD.

Becker…1st of all your videos are absolutely HILARIOUS and very entertaining. Especially when you do that special voice from complainers on Warrior Forum that have NO CLUE what they are talking about. LOL.

2nd which is my question, whats the best strategy you recommend for getting major targeted traffic to a new blog without getting it penalized by Google?

I look forward to your response.

    Thanks.

Hay Becker your a master of the dark art which is SEO.

I just had 2 quick questions!

I heard you saying that page rank doesn’t really play that much of a role when ranking for less competitive keywords.

My question is if a keyword has less that 10 searches a month on the Google keyword planner, which page rank would be needed to take over or will a basic site map to Google do?

I hope the question doesn’t seem silly as these keywords are part a much large competitive niche.

Lastly how powerful is the page rank 5 site? i.e would 1 page rank 5 be enough to rank 3 keywords, with less than 10 searches a month on the keyword planner?

Or will a lesser page rank be enough?

I look forward to your advice.

    Becker,

    Great teaching once again!

I applied this on my personal seo business site after going through all my notes of your trainings and I came upon these notes and was like…damn no freakin’ wonder my sites ranking sucks! So, I did the “looper silo” style.

Then the next morning, little over 14 hours later and WOW… my site which is about 2 months old, maybe a week or so less, and no other links, jumped up half the rank it was before.

    Thank you!

Now I am going to apply the High PR Blog training I took tons of notes on. The local SEO sites better watch out,,, I am coming!

Dude, thank you, the value of the training you give away is priceless!

Thank you also for the boot in the ass when I need it.

What I’ve been asking my self is:

What about blogs? you talk about pages a lot and how to build them, but how do you handle blogs or
how would you go about ranking blogs?
