You now this is really annoying … I come here to relax a listen to some SEO awesomeness and first thing I hear is about GTA which I cannot play because I’m a PC addict (thanks Rockstar) …. Oh, and about the rest … great stuff man ;)

    • Becker October 9, 2013 at 8:02 pm #

haha just get a PS3. GTA is alright =P

    • Nick October 29, 2013 at 10:46 am #

GTA?!? Nah… WoT and War Thunder! Biggest time eaters in the world, more addictive than crack…

    Blub indeed

    • Fran October 28, 2013 at 8:31 pm #

What does this “Fish goes blub” mean?

  4. Jim October 9, 2013 at 7:53 pm #

Hey Becker, so if you are trying to recover a clients site, would you just use High PR links to the homepage or would you create a silo’d sub page and then use High PR to that page? Or do you have to start over?

    • Becker October 9, 2013 at 8:02 pm #

Really depends on the site Jim, a lot of time if its tanked its becker to just make a new site. It really is a case by case basis

      • Jim October 10, 2013 at 5:38 pm #

Thanks Alex, for sites that I think I can save do you think it would be a good idea to build out a new silo and then backlink that page with the high PR backlinks? Or would you still backlink the homepage?

        • Becker October 10, 2013 at 9:57 pm #

The best thing to do would be to change the anchor text of your links and see if that helps. However after you got a penalty it is usually pretty hard to come back

  5. Bob October 9, 2013 at 8:01 pm #

What’s the deal now with poking. Do we still need to find high PR sites and grab a link to our site or can we use PR 0 sites for this?

  6. kyle October 9, 2013 at 8:13 pm #

what is that site with the pr domains in the video(couldn’t tell how you pronounced it)?

    • Becker October 10, 2013 at 7:12 am # (its linked below the video)

  7. Andy P October 9, 2013 at 8:14 pm #

Hey Alex, if mass linking is the work of the devil now, what is the safest way to create pillow links?

  8. kyle October 9, 2013 at 8:16 pm # nevermind I found it

  9. Jesse October 9, 2013 at 8:23 pm #

Becker, what do you use to track your rankings of your websites that we see you use on your videos? Love your stuff!

  10. Marc October 9, 2013 at 8:29 pm #

Nice Becker! Common sense still works – my gut reaction never did care for mass web2.0′s and all that other garbage. Just to clarify, when you say “expired domains” you don’t mean buying them AFTER they have expired, right? Then it all sets to zero.

  11. syed October 9, 2013 at 8:34 pm #

Hi becker, I followed your methods but my client website got hit and presently hovering around 5-6 page. Another site completely disappeared. It would be good if you show seo strategies that would regain website rank in serps from penguin. I am broken. :(

  12. Maggi Pier October 9, 2013 at 8:57 pm #

    Training is awesome as usual!

However…Help! We have been slapped into Google purgatory over the last few days. How on earth or where does one start for a site that has a lot of old school backlinks and a ton of more than likely over optimized pages. (1800 to be exact). What once got us to #3 on front page for main keyword has now gotten us a big fat spanking and a swift kick up the ying yang into oblivion.

Wondering if the blog network can help or whether to start all over? Feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start. Would love some in depth training on overcoming this annoying little (Ha Ha) obstacle.

Also…we actually have been using your Autopilot service over the last 4 to 5 months but now nothing seems to be working. Do you offer consultant services? I am at the end of my rope here.

  13. Jacob October 9, 2013 at 9:04 pm #

Yo Becker, awesome stuff! I’ve achieved so much more of a full understanding of how SEO works since I found your blog only 3 weeks ago, your the man. Quick question, how is the penguin 2.1 update effecting the method of ranking YouTube videos covered in “The State of the SERPS”? I checked your Lamborghini video and its still on top of the search so I’m guessing that they’re unaffected… also would you recommend ranking multiple videos using the same account or make a new account for each video? Thank you

  14. Alex October 9, 2013 at 9:19 pm #

Becker what is the site you are using to find domains? Sounded like “moozi”? Can’t find it

  15. Arbaz K October 10, 2013 at 6:04 am #

Getting links on High PR sites or going the way of creating web 2.0s and linking them to our money site?
Which one do you think will give you lasting results?

  16. Kevin October 10, 2013 at 7:16 am #

Hah! this video is exactly what I thought. No private PR networks are hurt. From about 20 clients we had 1! that was hit because the owner bought shit links in the past. (Yay, we get to clean up)

    • Becker October 10, 2013 at 2:54 pm #

Yep it was pretty night and day with this update

  17. Jens October 10, 2013 at 7:49 am #

Great presentation. It thought me a lot about what happed to me a few days ago.

I came to an interesting conclusion this morning. With the new Penguin update almost all of my old sites lost 70% (some even more) of their traffic. Linkbuliding for those sites was done with automated tools mostly building lots of low quality guestbook links, wiki links and social bookmarking links.

1 website that’s only 1 months old jumped this morning for the main keyword from position 110 to 5 and for the secondary keyword to position 10. Linkbuilding was done by using site directories, free web 2.0 blogs and blog comments. (no automated tools, except for the site directories) The site only has 137 backlinks now.

To be honest the domains of my old sites didn’t even rank very well before they were hit. I received most of my traffic actually through long tail keywords.

    • Becker October 10, 2013 at 2:55 pm #

Yeah tool links are not the best way to get rankings, they are good for stabalizing them though

  18. Maggi Pier October 10, 2013 at 11:19 am #

Hey Alex above…(not Becker) to answer your question…”Becker what is the site you are using to find domains? Sounded like “moozi”? Can’t find it” just look above and you will see the link “Moonsy”"right under the video under “resources”

  19. Nazir October 10, 2013 at 1:17 pm #

Hey Becker, nice vid and thanks for the update.

If not too busy Just a few questions
    1. How successful are High PR links for local search as I’ve been setting up a few test sites in the region (south africa) exactly as you’ve done with the watchthingsonlne/karmasutra pdf sites and have yet to see any astonishing results. At the moment the sites have some .com/.org/.net high pr links sending juice to them but no domains. Would I need local high pr domains to achieve great ranks in local search?

2.Whats the average cost for high pr expired domains? Cz I’ve bought a few from $60-$100 but nothing costly yet. Have you found better results with more costly domains or is it based a bit on the luck of finding a cheap quality domain…

    • Becker October 10, 2013 at 2:56 pm #

      1. they totally rock

      2. Depends on how you buy them and their links. You can sneak 2-3′s all day off some of the methods i showed you for 10-20 bucks. I personally just use a broker

  20. Josh October 10, 2013 at 1:48 pm #

When Google stops using links to determine SERP. I think the world might explode….

    • Becker October 10, 2013 at 2:57 pm #

Yeah but it will leave a whole new type SEO game wide open to game

    • Glenn October 11, 2013 at 4:37 am #

Yeah but that will never happen… Links are the life blood of the internet, without links it and Google wouldn’t even exist. It’s ALL about links

  21. Lewis October 10, 2013 at 6:27 pm #

Great stuff as usual Becker, I have been anticipating when you would come out with 2.1 info!

I had a few sites hit, but the ones that didn’t have ONLY my PBN links, I have begun systematically removing bad links from the sites/pages that tanked to see if they recover :)

    - Lewis :)

  22. Jordan Siegel October 10, 2013 at 6:37 pm #

Your stuff is so Bad Ass. You sold me on a membership! Instead of following the guidance of so many, I find success to be simply of following a successful person and just doing what they do.

Quick question- After these high PR networks are established, should we use a tool like senuke or ultimate demon to blast them with links?

BTW I’ll be one of your most successful students
    Just putting you on notice.

    • facepalmforever October 12, 2013 at 8:58 am #

should we use a tool like senuke or ultimate demon to blast them with links?>>>>
wow, this is why the vast majority following Alex will never make one red cent.

  23. Craig October 10, 2013 at 6:55 pm #

Any recommendations on how we treat out new high PR domains and what to put on the new site so we don;t lose the PR?

  24. Chuck October 10, 2013 at 7:05 pm #

    Hi Becker,

This change confirms what I have sort of suspected. Whenever I have looked for PR domains in PR Powershot, I have always arranged them with the highest quantity of links at the top. I’d take a PR0 with 1000 backlinks before a PR5 or higher that has fifty backlinks. It’s also what I look at when purchasing links from providers on the Digitalpoint forum or elsewhere.

This also makes building an effective PR network much cheaper. Now I have to find some cheap hosts that don’t take forever to approve my domain :D

  25. Katya October 10, 2013 at 7:56 pm #

What about link diversity and links coming from many sources? And what about mass links and lik pyramids/tierlinking? Can we still use software like GSA or Ultimate Demon? I was about to purchase GSA recently, but now I’m not sure whether that would be the right move.

  26. Choincstar October 10, 2013 at 9:15 pm #

Funny…my main site got totally hammered and I have never used ANY spam links too it. Only 100% natural links and high PR links from my 3 private link networks. Site was owning position 1 for over a year. Bounce rate was under 1% etc. etc. etc…

So if this update only targeted spammy links then why would my site have tanked?

    Something doesn’t add up

    • Becker October 10, 2013 at 9:55 pm #

Hey Choin, its also really hitting anchor text ratio (didnt have time to touch on that in this video, will in the next one though)

  27. Katya October 10, 2013 at 10:13 pm #

Becker what about automated software and the type of links that these type of software creates? Does this still work? Sorry for bothering you again, just figured I’m probably not the only one who might want to know. Hope you can leave a reply.

  28. Heisenberg Pinkman October 10, 2013 at 10:55 pm #

    Yo Bro;

What is the name of the website? MOONSEE? Can’t find it.

    Thanks yo.

PS – Not finding the bonus content unlocked even after liking.

  29. Chris October 11, 2013 at 1:09 am #

Hi Becker…awesome as always. However I am unsure how to go about setting up a high pr site once I have bought it. Does something in your training help with the actual steps of setting up the domain name to retain the current PR link?

  30. Nick October 11, 2013 at 3:18 am #

Whoa whoa whoa. I thought all you had to do to rank high in Google is create amazing content that people will want to link to and share! Oh yeah, we know by now that isn’t true at all. Awesome video. Great info.

Strangely, I have an old website unrelated to SEO in a fairly competitve niche that I haven’t done anything with–no blog updates, no link building, no PR network links, nothing–and it has come back to the first page (from about page 6) for a lot of searches after the Penguin 2.1 update. So yeah, I think Google is really going after sites that are creating tons of new links from social media link farms and places like that.

  31. Roland October 11, 2013 at 4:37 am #

First of all, thanks a lot for such a great video up there!

The update is still not crystal clear. Some of our clients went up to the first page even though they are not relying on any PR networks while others didn’t change much. I would confirm though that it was the best update of all for white hat optimizers where their low number of relevant links got more value than ever.

If someone is using mass linking tools to build few links each day with proper diversification, things would work to a certain extent. The velocity and the pattern used also became more important than before. Within those few days, it is hard to guess more than that based on our available data.

The use of high relevant PR sites would remain the safest technique of this year as you said. I’m tuned for your updates and future tutorials.

  32. allsoft ltd. October 11, 2013 at 9:34 am #

    Hi Becker,

Do you know what exactly G is going after on this new update? Is it backlinks?

  33. J October 11, 2013 at 6:55 pm #

Hey Becker! Great video as always. Where can I find a good broker?

  34. robert kight October 12, 2013 at 5:23 am #

    hi Becker ,
Love your vids and have your and alex software great for building sites by the way .I see empower new blogging system coming out and wonder if that way or having links to empower sites would do any harm.

  35. facepalmforever October 12, 2013 at 9:07 am #

    What about this ?
As you probably are aware on Twitter, Matt Cutts of Google said that he would be surprised if Google did another PageRank update this year.
So that’s only one Google pr update this year.

  36. Matt October 12, 2013 at 10:58 pm #

Can you please tell us some of your brokers? I believe know one of yours as you mentioned before, but perhaps you don’t like to reveal it on here because it might overkill the broker.

I hate searching for domains and doing all this stuff. Its just too mcuh for me and it kills my motivation. Can you email me your broker at

Also, is there a tool that automates the godaddy bidding?

  37. Shay October 14, 2013 at 3:59 am #

    Hi Becker,

    Few questions:

    1) After buying a PR site and changing it, will it not lose all its PR? I know we need to 301 everything to the home page, but if the site had like 100 pages and it suddenly drops to only 1-2 pages, will it not raise a red flag for google?

    2) Do we also need to use different registrars for the PR sites?

    3) Does google somehow have access to the details we registered with if we use whois privacy?

    • Valerie October 15, 2013 at 2:36 pm #

      1) Not sure. Was wondering that myself.

2 & 3) The registrar doesn’t matter. But the site should not be on the same server as the money site as google doesn’t know what IP address it’s hosted on and devalues links from the same box.

  38. John C October 15, 2013 at 8:23 am #

Been following your website for a while. Many thanks for the regular updates.

Quick question – What is your opinion regarding the big G going after this method by simply resetting or giving no value to expired domains? Just curious what your thoughts were before I started sinking resources into this method.

    Thanks in advance!

  39. Net Izen October 15, 2013 at 4:15 pm #

Really quickly, I just wanted to relate something to you, and everyone else who visits this site. You can say the words, really quickly, but you cannot explain anything really quickly. I am going away from your site, really quickly.

  40. Rosko G. October 15, 2013 at 7:49 pm #

it is a good idea to buy Chinese domains with Chinese anchors but with great backlink profile and pr.I don’t know does They will provide good link juice but are damn cheap

  41. Will Lee October 15, 2013 at 9:45 pm #

You mentioned mass link building getting spanked. Are you referring to SE Nuke? I use it from time to time but am never sure if this is going to blow up my sites or help improve the ranking. For purposes of this question, assume I am using it to build links all over the place gradually over time and not huge amounts very quickly.

Thanks, and love your stuff, keep it coming!

  42. Cifrica October 15, 2013 at 10:09 pm #

    Hi Alex,

    Please respond to my question.
Which method is safer for Adsense; Senuke and the templates you’ve provided OR building your own high PR small network?

    Thanks a lot

    • Becker October 16, 2013 at 8:55 pm #

Adsense sites are pretty much done

  43. Paul G October 16, 2013 at 9:53 am #

Do expired domains e.g a PR4 domain, that have been hit with some kind of previous Google penalty provide the same link juice as an expired ‘clean’ PR4 domain? There may be lots of PR domains flooding the market because they were penalised so is there any way of knowing which ones are penalised?

  44. shevar October 16, 2013 at 11:11 pm #

does this work for youtube too?

    • Becker October 17, 2013 at 4:01 am #

Different strategy, will be covering it soon

  45. Neil October 17, 2013 at 9:00 am #

Newb, sorry bud but I’m doing something wrong here.. followed your notes and could only get PR3&4 backlinks but still can’t rank for anything.

Question – when you backlink and you have a silo site what keywords do you go for and how would you get these keywords into a backlink. The silo has been built on average keywords which form part of the menu system so do I go for these keywords? I’m testing out your strategy on a One Direction website (don’t ask) and I just can’t get on the google radar not matter what I do!

Any help or advice would be great if possible pls:(

  46. Kevin October 17, 2013 at 5:12 pm #

I always find it funny when people hate on you Alex, AKA RIp off alert and other stupid ass blogs. These people are num nuts and a bunch of f@#kin idiots. I feel bad for them, because they are missing out on an amazing opportunity. Thanks for all of your good information!

    • SEO Success October 18, 2013 at 10:42 pm #

Tall poppy syndrome. Anyone who makes it big is going to have people trying to cut them down. Sure a few idiots aren’t gonna be bothering him when he’s driving around in a Lamborghini!

  50. Sebo October 29, 2013 at 3:23 am #

    Well Alex
After following your instruction and do a bit on page optimization
I rank over 30 keywords at front page of Google.
One of the most competitive keywords I rank #3.
The funny part is, Google bans me to check up all my keywords ranking.
Because I am going for thousands of keywords. Believe or not I did only 5 % of on page optimization and result is beyond my imagination.
I would love to send a copy of my ranking for you to show. I did not get effected by penguins last update at all.
I did not spent any money to buy new domain and all that either. Matter of fact my domain is not EMD at all.
It is unbelievable for me to see I beat Amazon and E bay for particular very competitive kW’s.
You are just awesome as your guitars mate. My heros for the guitar is Ritchie Blackmore and Joe Satriani.

    Thanks for the valuable information!

  55. Joe November 13, 2013 at 4:24 pm #

Hey Becker, awesome stuff as always. Thanks

My real concern about Private Blog Networks has always been the whois info. I bought a few domains for my PBN and when I looked up the Whois on each one, I found my contact info on most of them especially those bought through namejet. And my Ip address can also be detected for each domain I guess. Is there a solution for that?

  56. Martin November 17, 2013 at 8:53 pm #

Sorry, what do you mean with “Adsense sites are done”? Why is that?

  57. Andrew November 19, 2013 at 8:09 pm #

This video is right on the money about Penguin 2.1 and how to change your strategy to effectively rank websites with a Private blog network. I created a Video Tutorial on how to buy expired domains and setup a blog network hope this helps!

  58. joe December 6, 2013 at 10:19 pm #

    Hi Becker,

I purchase several domain names with high backlink counts. Should I add those sites on google webmaster tool? Webmaster ask you to add the tracker on your site and you have to verify the site. This supposed to help to indexed your content on your site. Should I or Should not bother adding those link juice sites to google webmaster?

  59. Adam December 10, 2013 at 3:26 pm #

This is really helpful thanks for the update

  60. Mike January 10, 2014 at 3:56 pm #

Would putting all domains into one GoDaddy account be something to worry about? If they’re all using different name servers would this be something Google could catch on to? Thanks for the great videos.

  61. Jock February 1, 2014 at 9:24 am #

Becker – what has happened to seozen- the sites are down and we have no access – what has happened ?????????????
